Florence M. Tremblay is a composer, cellist, and chorister originally from Rimouski and now based in Montreal. She holds a master’s degree in instrumental composition from the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal and a bachelor’s degree in cello from the Conservatoire de musique de Rimouski.
In her creative work, she is interested in interactions, rules, principles of gamification, and the transfer of models borrowed from various disciplines. Her affinity for early music and her search for fluidity and continuity are expressed through her harmonic explorations, which include just intonation and historical temperaments. Her passion for interdisciplinary collaborations has led her to work with poets, visual artists, an herbalist, and dancers.
As a composer, she collaborates with various ensembles, festivals, and organizations, including Ensemble Recherche, New Music Concerts, the Orchestre symphonique de l’Estuaire, Paramirabo, the Orchestre symphonique de Drummondville, the Quasar Saxophone Quartet, the vocal ensemble ArtChoral, and the woodwind quintet 5ilience. She received the Grand Prize in the 2022 SOCAN Young Canadian Composers Awards and was awarded a career development grant from the Sandra and Alain Bouchard Foundation in 2024. Her music has been performed in Paris (FR), Tinos (GR), Toronto (ON), Montreal, at Domaine Forget de Charlevoix, and at the Concerts aux Îles du Bic festival.
As a performer, she sings with the ArtChoral ensemble and plays cello with the Orchestre symphonique de la Côte-Nord. She is also a project manager for the Québec Musiques Parallèles festival and leads creative workshops within the Espace Transition program in collaboration with Sainte-Justine Hospital and the Orchestre de l'Agora. In 2021, she co-founded the Société régionale des musiques rares, an organization supporting and producing new music in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region.
